Title: 65 Years Together

Summary: The proposed project aims to reinforce relationships between researchers and society, creating various opportunities to meet, exchange views, debate and entertainment, giving the most possible complete picture of the social contribution of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) on Research, Technology and Environment.

The events will have festive character. 2010 coincides with two important events: the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) celebrates 65 years since its foundation and the research vessel ""Aegaeo"" celebrates the 25 years since its first research cruise. Thus, some of the main planned events will be performed on board of the three Research Vessels of the Centre The events will take place in the three cities where the Centre is developing its research activities: Attica - Anavyssos, Crete - Park 'Thalassocosmos, Rhodes - Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes (Museum & Aquarium).

A central common event-presentation will be organised in the three cities and then the program will be specified according to the site. The Central presentation will be complemented by a series of activities - scientific events, information and entertainment for all ages (eg tests, quizzes, and screenings, discussions with scientists and painting, theatre games, music). HCMR will open its doors and reveals its secrets. Thus, Visitors will start their experience with a guided tour of the sites, to be scientists-researchers for one night, to participate in mysterious and fascinating experiments, use unfamiliar and strange scientific instruments, to understand the magic and beauty of science and make the most inner questions not dare to do so far.

Target groups are school pupils, students, Local Authorities and the public in general. After an appropriate awareness campaign, a large participation of the public is expected, which will be quantified and evaluated as described in the related WP.
