Title: A model for the coordinated management of marine natural resources in the Macaronesian

Summary: Many of the marine species are currently threatened and many of them are protected. In this sense the Governments of the Republic of Cape Verde and the Canary Islands have spent several years developing collaboration programs between the two governments for the reintroduction of the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta). Besides the protection of sea turtles in the sea and on nesting beaches, in many cases become essential conservation programs nests.

Nest protection both in situ as eggs translocation outdoor areas close to the embryos have risks that, in many cases, cause high mortality embryos, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of these programs. Methodological changes based on experience improved hatching success in some programs but, in general, not well known factors that influence the success of hatching for these species. This project will implement important conservation actions of sea turtles and other species such as birds and cetaceans coastal today are seriously endangered in the world.

The project will be implemented in three years, and the implementation will consist of:

  • Developing the potential and management capabilities Tartaruga Nature Reserve (RNT);
  • Develop and execute two fields of work for obtaining evidence and to carry out training and conservation;
  • Cooperate, through the sharing of experiences, with universities in our geographical Macaronesian;
  • Use the data collected during the annual campaign of study for publication of scientific results relevant to the best knowledge and conservation of the turtle population;
  • Develop, from the second year of activity , work training and education
